Account Lock Outs in WinNT Server

By battss ·
We have a lab account that is permanently locked out. It doesn't show that the account is locked out in the User Manager, however when trying to login with the account it says that the account is locked out. Why is this happening and is there a way to fix this?

I've seen this happen with keyboards beginning to go bad.

Swap this computer's keyboard with another and see if the problem persists. If the proplem occurs with any keyboard than it's probably the keyboard port.

If the problame stops with another keyboard, you've found the problem.

Sometimes you can login if you switch the caps-lock ON and type in the password as if the keyboard is with caps-lock off. But the keyboard will get worse.... it's best to replace it.

There's may be a service running with the lab account, and this account has changed. Go to services and see what Auto-Start services are not STARTED and you will find the service.
Another case: A mapped drive from a workstation which is setup to auto-reconnect at next login, has an invalid passwsord.
In this case chack if the machine is a workgroup (local account ) to a domain account.
