Account Lockout

Hi,

I am having the situation of Accounts automaticall being locked out.
It seems to be random and as far as I can tell it is not related to user problems.
We have A server 2003 environment but we are running XP, 2000, 98, 95 on both thin and fat clients.

If you have any suggestions to te problem or any other information I might read, please let me know.

Does this occur just after they have changed their passwords? I've seen this occur regularly if a user changes a domain password while logged on to more than one machine.

Is this a recent problem or an old, on-going one? How long ago did this start? Did the start of the problem correspond to a service pack installation?

Does it happen to users regardless of the client OS? Are all the users in one location, or all on the same network segment? Is there a common application the affected users are running?

What is the maximum number of failed login attempts before an account gets locked out? Are you sure they aren't just mistyping their passwords?

Are you sure that you don't have a user trying to guess other users passwords? Disable account lockout on the DC after x failed logons and monitor situation.

Randex worm

We had this problem this past spring with Randex locking AD accounts. Be sure your systems are patched and VS up to date.
