It sounds as if it is overheating, most likely.

Does it have its fan mounted on the top or on the bottom?

You should check where it is sitting – is it near a heat source? Is it sitting on something that might block the ventilation?

Can you feel ANY hot air coming out of the exhaust port?

Does the fan initially kick-in when you power on, then subside?

Even on low revs you should be able to ‘feel’ air being sucked in to the fan port if you hold your hand, momentarily, over the fan intake vents.

The laptop survives for about 8 minutes as you said, then the problem may be where the laptop is sitting (something soft maybe, like your legs) which may be impeding the flow of fresh air. That way it takes slightly longer to overheat than usual. – NO AIRFLOW would result in a shutdown in less than 8 seconds.

Your fan intake may be filled with dust, bits of fluff, even crumbs.

Another thing: you can feel hot air coming out – you didn’t say if you feel cold air going in!

Laptops have TWO fans: one expels (pushes) hot air away from the CPU, the other fan impels (sucks) cold air into the case and towards the CPU.

If you can’t feel cold air going in, your impeller fan may be the cause.

You should buy a can of compressed air (one that comes with a little attachable plastic straw for aiming the airflow). Spray the compressed air into all the vents to dislodge any dust build up, particularly on the blades of the fans. ALWAYS power down and switch off the laptop before using the compressed air.

NOTE: ALWAYS hold the can of compressed air UPRIGHT while using it, otherwise you run the risk of spraying particles of propellant liquid into your laptop case!

Post back and let me know if you can feel cold air going in.

OK I looked at the vents more closely and the 3 small vents on the bottom of the unit, and tyhe fan output is on the right side of the unit where it blow out hot air ,I didn’t notice any other fans on the unit, one of the bottom vents are over the hard drive and the other is over the memory ‘i didn’t notice any other fans beside that one.I assume the fresh air is pulled through the bottom vents.
