Acer Parallel Scanner

By computerservices ·
I am running Windows XP Professional, on a new machine(1Ghz CPU, 512MB memory, 40Gb Maxtor HD)I've installed and reinstalled, manually and automaticly an Acer parallel port scanner model 620P. Everything says that it is "working properly", however when trying to use it I receive the error message "scanner can not be found". I've considered purchasing a new scanner, but this one works so well and has the best resolutions, including 'user defined'. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated!

Acer Parallel Scanner

The Acer scanner did not show up when I checked the compatable hardware list at Microsoft.

Acer does have an updated driver for you to download though.

Remove any spaces from the pasted link.

After that;
Is your parallel port set to ECP/EPP mode?
You need to do this in BIOS settings if not.

If you have a printer connected to the scanner, is the printer turned on?
Some printers when they are off lock up the Port.

Chas, Thanks for the tip on the updated driver, I had downloaded version 3.41 just about 3 weeks ago, and had no luck with it. Yes, the parallel port is set to ECP/EPP and the printer is always on. I'm going to give this new driver a try and I'll let you know if it worked.
PS I did know that the scanner was not on the Windows compatible hardware list, however I have other hardware items not on their list as well and have had no problems installing them.
Thanks again!! Much appriciated
