Acess 2007

I am importing data from a payroll system. This bring in details of each salary increase incluidng the applicable date of the increase. However I want to exclude all but the last record(i.e. the most recent record based on applicable date). I tried ‘last’ and ‘dlast’ but either I’m doing it wrong or it isn’t the right function. Can anyone help?
