acess problem

One machine with Windows XP tries to access the other machine on network with windows 98 an error comes something like "an account does not have permission to access on this station". We have checked machine(windows 9 no extra permission has been assigned. Also we have checked that windows XP machine can access other machines on network ...
All idea will be appreciated..

hi

have you enabled file and printer sharing on the win98? Is the 98 machine on the same domain as the XP PC? I would start with these two. let me know how you get on

Assuming that both the systems are under the
same domain, please make sure the in windows
98 system, under network properties you
have A) File & Print service installed
B) Have ticked on I want to be able to
share my file and printer.

Hi

As well as checking the points mentioned above, you should also make sure that identical accounts exist on the Win98 machine as are on the WinXP machine (indeed, you need to make sure that the accounts of all users who will connect to the Win98 machine have duplicate accounts on the Win98 machine).

Thanks for the answers. Yes i have checked that print and file sharing is ON and also I want to be able to share my file and printer is ticked.
Yes both the systems are on same domain.

been a long time since I had to deal with win9x. Googled your question and came up with this link which set a bunch of old brain cells to firing.
