Acessing a restricted user account

By mami.wata ·

My laptop's hard drive crashed this week and I used a hard drive enclosure to back up my data from the failed hard drive to my desktop's.
I was able to access folders for all accounts/users (administrator, guest, etc.) BUT couldn't access the one I've named "Super User" in the past. I do still have & remember the password to access it but the PC doesn't even give me the option/field to enter the password.
When I click on the folder, I get "access denied" message.
Any helps on how I can access that folder will be highly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Did you try taking ownership of the folders? You might also try making a new account on your computer with that user name and password. Log in as that user and see if you can access the folders that way.

Taking Ownership

by Langlier In reply to how do you take ownership ...

Log in to an account with admin privleges (this has to be XP Pro.)

Find the folder in question

Right click and go to Sharing and security

select the security tab

click advanced

select the owner tab

select administrators and that you want to replace the owner on subcontainers and objects

click apply

this will take some time but afterwards you should be able to access the data.

Just access your harddrive from any Linux machine
