acessing shares from a vpn client

By jmajcher ·
I have a winnt4 domain with an ISA server connected to the internet. I have vpn set up on the ISA box. When I connect to my network via a vpn connection, I am prompted for a username and password to access a share.
What do I need to look at to resolve this problem.
BTW, I have thought of the need to have the vpn clients workgroup set to the domain name that I'm trying to connect to. I have also, made the vpn client a domain member with no sucess.
Thanks
Jeff

Create a local c:\windows\HOSTS file for each server that you wish to access through the VPN. (See HOSTS.SAM sample -- open with notepad -- for an example ; the real hosts file should NOT have any extension).

That would be fine, but I can ping by host name.

I am always asked for a password when the client uses share level access instead of user level access. The client should be authenticating and getting its permissions from the server. Have you checked this in the access control tab in the network control panel of the client?
