ACL problem

By ddennis ·
I had an administrator who removed the administrator's access to all shares/data DIRs. Short of takeing ownership of each directory one at a time and losing all exsiting access rights, how can I return full access right to the admins group.

The real question is whether another account has full control permissions to the directories? If so just use that account to add the Administrator group back in.

Taking ownership will not change current permission settings only file ownership of existing files. (How many people actually set permissions on their own files...)

The last option would be to restore the affected directories from backup. (Providing the backup software supported permission preservation.)

This condistion is long standing. Backups would not help. Users are spread around the country.
