I have always had a connection which assigns only one IP address for the whole network and I have been using a wireless router. Now there is a need to connect to the internet with 2 different IP addresses. I ordered the service and the ISP said I need a switch for that. Initially the plan was to connect the internet cable to the switch, then one cable to the router and another into the new computer that would have a different IP (I provided the MAC address of this PC for the ISP, as requested).
First question: is this layout OK? Should it work? Because right now it isn’t working.
When using a switch, the computers can’t connect to the internet. It says “Identifying network” and keeps doing that for a long time. But without the switch everything still works, except I can’t get the two different IP addresses of course.
Additionally, I noticed that I am able to connect to the internet via the switch when its power isn’t on 🙂 but only from port #1. As soon as I plug in the power cable the connection is interrupted.
