Acrobat Reader error

By iterx78 ·
I've downloaded different version of Acrobat Reader and installed them on Win98 but when I tried to run the program, it always comes up with the error message saying the following:

"Acrord32
this program has perform an illegal operation and will close now."

What is the problem here and how can I fix it?

Soemtimes there are conflicts if you install a newer verison of Acrobat Reader over an older one, 4 over 3 for example. You might uninstall all of them, and install the most recent and see what happens.

why would you want to have different versions on the same machine?
as long as there's no password protection, the latest reader can read older pdf.
if i'm not wrong, even the installation readme would ask you to first uninstall the older version; besides, if the same dll is being used, there's really no point in keeping the old ones.

What I meant was that no version are not able to run on my computer. At first I thought that there might be some error with the program that I downloaded so I tried different version but come up with the same error message.

well, that would be unique and the first time i've heard of such incident.

it's either (possible only) the various version you had downloaded is not for Win9x or your Win9x has another software that conflicts.

hopefully yours is not a pirated win9x?

I had used AR ver 3, 4, even 5 on Win9x, and had never encounter your case.

you could also scan your disk, scan for viruses, defrag your HDD, sufficient disk space...bottomline, what else have you tried?

I've run into several strange problems with Acrobat. Try this:
In the control panel, remove ALL old versions of Acrobat.
Reboot.
After your PC starts, close all open programs. (It says to do this on most installs, but most people don't). Close the open programs in the systray, and press ctrl-alt-delete, then close any open programs you don't need.
Reinstall acrobat.
Hope that helps.
