I am running Windows 2000 Advanced Server in a Lab environment. I promoted the server to a DC using dcpromo with out problems. Now, with no errors showing in event viewer, every time I launch Active Directory Users and Computers My Server freezes on me and everything stops. It does not come back to life until I power the server off and back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it could be due to the DNS server or the internet access if there is any. Try waiting for 5 minutes to see if the AD menu comes up. Mine does that when my DNS server setup was wrong but it will eventually come up after waiting for 5 minutes and things would work fine again.

Also, try to look in the task manager to see if there is any task that is causing this problem.

BTW, is that the only MMC that is causing problems? What about opening other MMC?

This also occurs in Active Directory Sites and Services. I have waited for 20 to 30 minutes and nothing. I also have DNS set up for dynamic updates. Also I have performed the dcdiag.exe tool and everything checks out ok. I can't seem to find theproblem.
