Active directory design/DNS

By edrox ·
Hi,

I have the following problem;
our servers are called whatever.xxx.com
And whatever stands for the servername.
We want to use active directory, but because we are a division we cannot call our tree xxx.com
We can only call it xxx.eu, and then the subsites whatever.xxx.eu, while the domain name search order on the servers and the PCs is xxx.com

Will this work or is this impossible?

Thanks in advance,

With active directory, you can create trees and forests. I am not sure why you need to name your division xxx.eu. If you are using active directory, you could make the DC(s)for your division be eu.xxx.com. Your servers and workstations would thenbe whatever.eu.xxx.com. The DC(s) for the company xxx.com would be the central authority feeding synchronizing data to the DC(s) of eu.xxx.com, eu.xxx.com would have sub-administrative accounts for it's management which, by default, would have no authority over the xxx.com domain, though this could be granted if necessary.

Under Active Directory Domains and Trusts... right click on the Domain and select Properties. Then just type in the xxx.eu as an alternative UPN suffix. Thats all you have to do.
