Active Directory DNS configuration problem

By mahammad_09 ·
Hi all
I am totally new in Active Directory. I am using Windows 7 O.S. Using RSAT I have installed all the active directory related components in my OS. From Start->Administrative Tools, I can open the DNS manager. My problem is that when I am trying to connect to DNS server, "the server is unavailable Would you like to add it any way" problem comes.
Besides, when I am openning other Active Directory snap-ins, none is working properly. For example Active directory Users and Computers snap-in throws error, naming information can not be located because the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.."
If I use nslookup I can see my server name as "" and address as
I want to use active directory for my application.
Can any one please tell me what is going on? Why I am getting such errors. Please help me.

First, while using Remote Server Administration Tools ... do you have permissions to administer the server you are attaching to? (are you getting prompted for credentials? user/pass)

Is your machine in the same domain? (active directory domain)

Sounds like that your active directory installation is making references to a different domain within its domain controller. There is a Microsoft support Knowledge base article that addresses this error specifically. It also lists possible ways to resolve it. Hope that it is helpful.
