Active Directory & Password Kiosk

By wats679 ·
Hi,

I'm looking for a solution on the above subject. Do any of you have this deployed in your organisations? Any one using a free ware solution?

Password Kiosk is a self-service web-based facility linked with Active Directory that enables users to reset forgotten password and unlock their accounts, without support from the Systems Administrator.
Additional Info:
- limited budget of around 15k
- AD users of at least 1000
- I'm particularly interested in an Open Source solution, but, let that not limit your suggestion.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

"A solution on Active Directory & Password Kiosk." What is the problem?

Essentially advertising.

Are either AD or PF Open Source? No.

So, what is the question then?

Hi seanferd,
Problem: Sys Admins overloaded with tasks.
Idea: To empower users to be able to reset their own passwords, via a web GUI which will be linked to AD for user authentication.

Assumption: Users would have created their security questions for authentication purpose, before password reset need.

1. User goes to the intranet site to reset password.
2. Enters his username.
3. Site checks username with AD.
4. If Yes, proceed to 5, else, error message "username not found", goto 2.
5. Site displays security questions, and await correct input of recorded answers.
6. If answers correct proceed to 7, else, error message "the answer to one of the questions is incorrect, please try again", goto 5.
7. Page allows user to enter New Password.
8. Password Saved to AD.

Question: Is there an open source app that can accomodate? There are some paid solutions like, www.quest.com, www.scriptlogic.com, www.nordicedge.net, but am keen to know if there's any available Open Source solution.

I hope that clarifies my objective.

Regards!
WK
