ActiveSync Connectivity

By sirknightii ·
I recently acquired a UTStarcom PC6700 touch screen phone. I have been trying to get ActiceSync to work since, tried 4.5; 4.2; 4.1 and neither one will recognaize my unit. Both keep beeping as they try to locate - I know that I will still be able to copy some files across without that but I will not be able to sync or upload. Previous attempts to skip this process left my copy process frozen when I tried to upload files to PC from the phone.
I have disconnected my firewall and antivirus software and still ActiveSync cannot find my Pocket PC even though Windows identified it as New Hardware.
I have tried finding a older version but nothing.
Any suggestions please

O.K. How old is the phone?

I should think that any of those versions would work. Maybe you had a bad initial install and there was junk left behind. Let's start there.

Uninstall Active Sync. Now go to http://www.ccleaner.com and download the cleaner. Install. In order to get everything, you must run it recursively. The first time you run it, it will ask if you want to make a backup of your registry. SAY YES! Drop the backup on your desktop so you can find it easily.

Run the registry tool until it can't find anything else. Close the tool and reboot. On successful reboot, trash the backup you made and create a restore point.

Couple of questions- are you installing Active Sync from the disc that goes with the phone? If yes, continue to do this. It isn't impossible that you have a bad download if you are trying to install from download. Try re-downloading the software.

If your next effort fails on you, either use your new restore point or run CCleaner after you uninstall. Remember to save the first registry backup and reboot after everything is clean.

Good luck!
