AD and non MS MICROSOFT DNS

By bengoa ·
I am trying to install AD, using a BIND 8.1.2 compliant DNS. I have added a
SOA records on all my DNS servers.

When I try to run AD from the wizard,

"The wizard cannot contact the DNS server that handles the name Domain Name
to determine if it supports dynamic update. Confirm your DNS configuration,
or install and configure a DNS server on this computer"

What I am I doing wrong. Do I need to add another DNS record.

Thanks Alex

As long as your BIND server is set for Dynamic Update, just proceed with the install. The wizard is pathetic at best when trying to determine if DNS is configured correctly. I quite often see dcpromo show this message against a properly configuredWindows2000 DNS server. Complete the install and restart the AD server. Once the server reboots, log in and do the following:
Start>Run>cmd
net stop netlogon
net start netlogon
This forces a writing of the SRV records to DNS.
Once the restartof netlogon is complete, check the BIND DNS server to see if the records are now there.
*I will make one note. MS now STRONGLY recommends 8.2.2 of BIND for proper functionality with AD.

The DNS server was upgraded to 8.2.3. I did as instructed. It did not work. I am going to try to install SP1.

Thanks
