AD upgrade

By GJ2008 ·
If I was to upgrade my NT4 network to Active Directory, would the existing 2 domains still remain (get move across automatically)? I need to delete one of the domains and make all the clients under that domain members of the other domain - is it best to do this before or after the upgrade? Please advise.

To leave both NT4 and 2000 domains is not that clever. There are very nice migration tools of microsoft to move all NT4 domains to AD very smoothly.

First, make a AD domain - in mixed mode. (DOn't forget to configure the DNS properly, because all windows 2000 is based on it...) Then migrate all the users to AD. Check very carefully afterwards and depromote the NT 4 and delete it.
Don't forget to configure the clients : after migrating to AD their stations must 'join' to new domain.

If you'll need more help send me a mail.

Good luck !
