Adaptive Load Balancing

By justin.ilumin ·
I've set up adaptive load balancing through three NICs on my server running NT 4 SP5, and it works great in the Domain and LAN, but for some reason I'm not allowed to use my internet browsers. I vaguely remember that ALB used with NT 4 sp5 or sp6 only works with the IPX, but I'm not sure. If someone knows why it's not working with TCP/IP please let me know-- or how to set it up to work on that protocol. My NICs are all new Intel cards that support NIC teaming.

Adaptive Load Balancing

We have existing projects on NT4 SP5, doing teaming, and they run fine -- protocol is TCPIP.

Can you be more specific about what you mean by internet browser not working? How about simple ping, does it work?

: I've tried pinging other computers on the network (LAN), and that works fine, but it doesn't work when I try to ping anyone outside of the network, or any website for that matter. As for not being able to browse, I mean the internet. I can't get my internet explorer or Netscape to work. Any suggestions?

Im running Intel based dual and quad configs w/ ALB configurations running tcp/ip only. I have not had any problems with web browsing at all. Are you using any type of web proxy that may be filetering on machines MAC address's or IP's? Does it workwith internal websites and not external? I think the best thing to do is when you have a window, disable all but two NICs (unplugg them from the network) and see if you can browse the web. The best way to find out any further would be to do a packettrace w/ a network analyzer and see where and when it's failing.
Good Luck- SFO

No web proxy is being used. I guess I should also say that when I use only a single NIC, and not the "team" web browsing seems fine.

You may want to check this link, both on individual NICs (one by one) as well as as a team.

Good luck.
