Add a comment to a folder

By CMB from Omaha ·
Using Windows XP Professional Explorer with "details" view.

I know how to select which details to display, etc., but cannot figure out how to add comments to several (private) folders so that the comments are visible in Windows Explorer. (I have tried accessing the folder properties, but cannot find a place to add a comment).

Files you can add comments but not folders.
Seems a valid update for Longhorn and its new file system....

I should add that I just found out about using the "InfoTip" command in desktop.ini, which is =somewhat= helpful.

But I'm thinking there MUST be some registry hack or something to let me display comments for folders!

First of all, there are two ways to get the comment field on a folder. One is when you share the folder out it asks you for a share name and below that is a comment field. If the folder is not shared out (with a hand icon on it) then the only other way is to create a shortcut to that folder. Once you create a shortcut to it, then you can right click it, go to the properties and insert a comment. The comments will only show up if you hover over the folder with your mouse and don't actually click anything. If they don't show up you need to go to windows explorer, tools, folder options, and go to the view tab. From there scroll through until you get to show pop up description for folder and desktop items and make sure there is a check in the box. Hope that helps.
