Add new DNS number to clients?

By r_p_mann ·
Hi there, I just finished performing an in-place upgrade to my NT4 PDC. It is now running W2K Adv Svr and Active Directory. Since AD required DNS, this same machine is now running DNS Server. My question is, do I need to add the DNS ip of the server to all my clients? If I don't, what will happen or not happen? Is there a particular order I need to specify since my clients already have two other dns entries? I've noticed that on my own workstation, if the new dns number isn't first in thesearch order, I cannot use any AD tools and connect to the new domain. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

are clients using DHCP?

by johnpattison In reply to Add new DNS number to cli ...

if the client PCs are using DHCP assigned from the server, it's a simple matter of adding the server's IP address in the DNS scope setting and making it the first server. If they're not using DHCP, then it's going to be a manual process (unless youcan run a vbscript against all of them and modify the registry that way)
