Add printer icon is missing

Hi,

1. Basically you either have a policy that restrict user from adding printer (Disable addition of printer). Just edit the group policy and disable this poilicy and you'll be all set.

2. However, this policy does not prevent users from using the Add Hardware wizard to add a printer. Nor does it prevent users from running other programs to add printers. Therefire you can use Add hardware option to add the printer.

Regards,

Thank you for your quick repsond. However, i forgot to mention that i have couple workstations using Windows 2000 Pro. Do i have to reconfigure from my workstation or server. Because i had tried both and i dont see restriction policy for addition for printer. I looked under User Rights Assignment and Security Options. Did i look in the right area? If not can you walk me thru the steps. Thank you in advance.

The setting under the MMC's policy editor is at:
Local Computer Policy ->
User Configuration ->
Administrative Templates ->
Control Panel ->
Printers ->
Disable Addition of Printers

Also as the other person mentioned, you can just get around this by using the Add Hardware Wizard and telling it to add a new printer.
