Add Printer Wizard

By Julied ·
I have a W2K server and 15 workstations running W2K. I have one machine that cannot map to a printer. Using the Add Printer Wizard, when the Browse For Printer window comes up under shared printers all I see is Microsoft Windows Network and cannot expand it. No printers are listed. This is machine spacific, not profile related. Machine is able to access all network resources, the only problem is with adding the printers. Please advise.

Add Printer Wizard

I've had this problem occasionally on Win2K workstations, too. If rebooting doesn't work, try installing the printer through a different path. Instead of using the Add Printer wizard, got through Network Places, browse to the server where the printer is connected, right click on the printer share name and click "Connect". This workaround has usually worked for me. Hope it helps!

Another way to add the printer is to go to <Start> <Run> and type in \\Servername\printername at the command line. It will add the printer for the user logged in. To add printers for all users who use tht workstation, type rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /c\\workstation /n\\printserver\printername /j"LanMan Print Services"

This is continuing to happen and although I know there are other ways to map I am wanting to understand why it is happening and how I can get it to stop. It is machine specific - not profile related. Any ideas? I'd like to standardize the machines. thanks
