Add / Remove programs problem with WIndo

by lrotolo . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I am experiencing a problem with the Windows 2000 add / remove programs applet. When I select America Online and click the remove button I get the following error message: “An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file. Abort / Retry.” Retry doesn’t work, and Abort displays the following error: “The uninstallation file is damaged.”
After reinstalling AOL, (both versions 5 & 6), I tried AOL support. Two different techs could not help. I checked Microsoft’s support site but couldn’t find anything. I’m fairly certain that there is something wrong with an AOL registry key. AOL support did not have a listing of the keys the software modifies, (or at least would not release the list to me). Short of deleting all references to AOL in the registry and reinstalling the two packages, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Lou
