We have purchased a Seagate 73.4Gb SCSI hard drive to add to our Dell PowerEdge server. It will not be part of the RAID configuration as it will be used as a stand alone drive. I do not want to assume too much before I add this drive myself or farm this out. We currently have one primary drive using RAID to mirror this drive for system desaster recovery. The drive wil act as our file storage drive. Daily backups will ensure recovery should it be required on this new drive.
I assume the drivewill plug into an open slot on the same twisted pair that the primary drive is plugged into. Upon boot up windows will detect the new device and ask to format the drive. Once formatted and the server is up and running, if I can see the drive, I can copy files and life should be good… in a perfect world.
I know this is a simplified form or what I need to do. However, there is not a lot of clear materials available for adding a new drive to a server. I have done it to workstations. Since this is the server (we are a small company with only one server) I want to make sure I have all possible documentation I could need before I start.
Thank you in advance to everyone who responds.
