Add second hard drive as slave for repairs.

By errrrt ·
I repaired my registry hives and got windows to boot, but I cant use my mouse and keyboard after windows starts.I added the drive as a slave to fix this problem by directly copying files from one hard drive to another. Now I get- LSASS.EXE "When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct".So now I have this problem as well.Theres even a password for the recovery console, where before I only had to press ENTER.The disk is fine, all programs work as I have it(as slave).I have full access, little knowledge of what to do as far as fixing my two problems. What I would really like to do is run SFC on the drive, but I dont know how to make it run on the slave drive. It has xp home sp3 on it,but SFC only sees the master. The master has xp pro sp3.Anyone know how to make sfc run on a slave drive?

SFC does not run on a slave.....

SFC is for checking critical files for the Operating System which is currently running. It could care less where those system files are located across partitions/drives. It's only checking to see if the files for the current OS are in tact.

As far as your password problem for the old HDD is concerned, you'll need to take ownership of the files.

And no chance as none of this is possible with the drive running as a Slave.

Do a In Place Upgrade install here by following the directions here unless you have EFS Running.

None of what you are attempting is not possible unless the Drive is the Boot Drive.

You'll also need to take ownership of the Files Folders by following the directions here;en-us;308421

If you do have EFS running stop doing anything at all and take the unit to a Professional if you ever want to see any of your Data again in a readable form at least.
