Added Job Functions to Primary Job

by opiate . Updated 20 years, 1 month ago

Should we ask for more money when they are piling up other added things to our Job? Currently I am a Net Admin, been one for almost 6yrs here. But recently they have been piling more and more work on my existing work.

On top of my every day activities as a Network Administrator, I am now asked to take care of the following, mainly cus no one has “time” or wants to do it:

Manage Time Clocks, we have a few. For the most part it is easy, but the point is, it takes time. And one of our clocks requires more advanced programming since it is also a bell system that is set for different times and dates and even DST. A pain.

They also dropped on my lap the responsibility of managing the “company’s cell phones.” That means I must now make sure everyone has an updated contact list, updated cells, replace phones that are broken, make sure we are covered under the insurance/warranty and make a lot of calls. very time consuming.

Next they added me to manage a network camera security system (which I also implemented and deployed.) I have to manage it and also review the video footage, quite time consuming as well.

I am now also responsible over maintaining the PBX system, mainly if someone moves offices, I must switch theit phone lines, or extentions or re-wire something (something I had to pick up since I didnt even know what a PBX was.)

Another thing is now I also have to manage the COMDIAL Voicemail system. This involves resetting VM passwords for new employees, setting them up, and also managing the phone directory. Time consuming as well, “but someone has to do it.”

You know, I love working, and I enjoy working hard, the thing is, I feel I am just being taken advantage of, for they have the attitude of, “well this has SOMETHING to do with computers, so YOU manage it.”

Let alone, I am the only IT “guy”.

Oh and another thing, the CEO wants me to get training on some accounting program now, because he wants me to be the person that “trains” accoutning employees how to use the stupid program. WTF?!

Am I being unreasonable in thinking I should be getting paid more than 17hr?! The company is a small-med business, it makes good revenue and not to mention, the guy whose job I took prior to me, was getting paid about 60-70K a year for HALF the work I now do and half the quality (they dont know I know that though.) I have always been modest in what I asked for, but now it seems ridiculous in what they are doing.

What do you guys think, I should ask for or at least contemplate on salary ranges? I need help before I lose my marbles, thanks.

Regard,

R
