Adding a FAT 32 Hard Disk to NTFS System

By BKaz24 ·
I added a FAT32 (WIN98SE) Hard Disk to my NTFS (W2kPRO) based System, and the computer appeared to boot just fine, and upon accessing the WIN98SE FAT32 based hard disk, I was able to browse the files just fine, then i attempted a multiple file select (Hold CTRL and select multiple files individually) and the Add New Hardware Wizard kicked me out of the My Computer and file browser window and took over and recognized, identified, and installed the WIN98SE disk drive, then promted me to format the "unformatted volume" which contained valuable info... i said no, then I could no longer access the WIN98SE drive and so i attempted to just go on back to the system it came out of, and it identifies the boot sector, and then the system hangs, i used the WIN98SE CD-ROM to boot and accessed FDisk (as it did not recognize the hard disk)and it shows an unknown partition, 100% usage, so now i am stuck with a PC that Hangs, and short of Formatting and reinstalling, i was looking for anyone who can help me at least salvage info off it first.

ok, goto powerquest and look at their offerings for diaster recovery (they used to offer lost&found) whioch could read back a whole disk and extract lost through partition table damage. an alternative but not as good is using norton disk docter's diskedit where you can read back a disk sector by sector and fix partition table etc as you go.

hope this helps
