Adding a Workstation into the domain

    Locked

    by angel01 ·

Cannot find the Windows NT Domain when trying to admit Windows 2000 workstations into the domain. Can ping the PDC, BDC and the WINS
server successfully. NetWare environment w/Windows 2000 workstations. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

add the workstation to the domain on the PDC thru the sever manager then goto the workstation and add it.
To do it all from the workstation you need admin rights to the domain, but even then it may not want to let you do it. (I had this problem once)

When you try to add the workstation, are you using your pre-windows 2000 domain name, or the registered DNS domain name. When I tried to add a WIN2K workstation to a Windows 2000 domain, I had to use the DNS domain name.

In order to add the workstation to the domain I had to assign the machine a static address, add the workstation to the domain then return the workstation to DHCP. This seemed to solve the problem.
