Adding first WIN2000server to NT4 domain

Im adding the first win 2000 server to an NT 4.0 domain. I have a new sever which is going to get the win 2000 server installed on it. My question is do i need to load NT 4.0 and promote it to a PDC and then upgrade to 2000 or can I load win 2000 onthe new server and then promote to a DC?
