Adding NDS to Network Control Panel

By KarynM ·
Once you have installed Novell Netware
Client, it overwrites the NDS service in the
Network Control Panel. I have been able
to remove Novell Netware Client 3.21
using the uninstaller. However, I need to
add the Netware Directory Service back
into the Network Control Panel.
According to Microsoft's KB, this can be
done, but I have yet to do it successfully
according to their instructions. I would
greatly appreciate any help anyone has to
offer.

Install Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks, restart, log into your network, then reinstall desired Novell Client components.

Because installing Novell Netware
software removes the NDS service in
the Network Control Panel, I need to
be able to install that before the
Microsoft Client for Netware will even
allow me to log onto the network.
Thanks anyway!

Is this what you are looking for:
Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel,double-click the network neighborhood icon, when the window opens,on the general tab click the IPX/SPX protocol and click add button.

Try extracting the netcpl.cpl file from your OS installation CD to c:\windows\system

Hope that will work for you.

Just my two cents worth.
I have suffered this same fate.
The problem file is nwnds.dll
I used the following Knowledgebase articles, but these are a pain, but it can be done.

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q222/0/34.ASP

To extract the DLL from the OS CD
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q129/6/05.ASP

Just a side note, If you have a copy of the Client 32 Unistaller (Remember that old one, its usually on a floppy, came with NW 4.1)
When I ran this uninstaller, this helped me alot with replacing this dll.

The first couple times I tried to replace this dll it failed, but on like the fourth try I was able to add MSNDS back.

Good Luck,Don't Give Up, hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did try
extracting the DLL and a few other
things before asking this question. I
have been successful in replacing
NDS on one PC. The extraction is
not a sure thing and I was looking for
something that was. Thanks again!
