Adding Network Printer to a Workstation

By jamrock ·
I have several NT4 & win98 wksta attached to a NT4 (spk6) server using tcpip. Also Hp 5si printers using tcpip Jetdirect (tcpip).
The problem is on One NT4 wksta when ever I try to Add a printer I get the message "Out of Resource, Printer operationcannot continue due to lack of resources". The wksta as 128 mb ram 10gig hd free and no application active. The has 256 mb ram, 40 gig hd free. I cannot add local or network printer. Any Help
Thank You

Spooler service might be giving a problem here. Cold boot ur workstaion (one with problem), Preferably login as local admin and add the printer. This shud solve the problem. This has nothing to do with ur system resources.

Update on developments.

Previous post is correct. This is not resource problem but a permission problem.
First logon with Domain Admin rights and add the printer.
Then log on as Local Admin and add the printer again. (you will need to type in the UNC Path instead of browsing to the printer)
This will make the printer availible to all users who logon.

This requires you to increase the size of your registry and/or paging file. Check this out. Most probably, the registry is nearing its max. alloted size. Increase this substantially.

I hear ya brother.. Why not just d/l the installation driver program from the manuf!!
This SHOULD bypass the add printer, and hopefully work.. not an answer to your question but a possible solution.
Good Skill
Mike
