Adding new server to a existing domain

By dgr ·
I have purchased a new server with MS SMB 2003 server and during the operating systems install created a domain on this new server. I need to join it to a existing domain. How do I demote or remove any domain services on this new server so it can just join the existing domain?

Thanks any info is appreciated

You're an IT consultant and you ask such questions?

How long have you been calling yourself a "consultant"?

Anyway, to spare you the grief of further embarrasing yourself, run dcpromo on the server and choose to demote it back down to a member server. When you are prompted if this is the last server in the domain, choose the yes option to proceed. The server will need to be rebooted, after which it will become a member server again. Put the server back into a workgroup mode, which will require another reboot. Then, join it to the domain in question and it will become a member server of the existing doman.

I seriously suggest you brush up on your knowledge of AD, because calling yourself a "consultant" and asking such simple question is insulting to the rest of us consultants who know this stuff.
