Adding Printers in Windows NT Login Scri

By barneylejeune ·
I am trying to add shared printers in my NT Login scripts, but the printers do not show up in the Printers folder. I am using a command similar to the following:
net use \\server1\officelaser
The printer shows up when I run Net Use at a commandprompt. But, it does not show up in the Printers folder. The shared folders that I add in the login script are available for use in My Computer, why aren't the printers available the same way in the Printers folder?

Try Net Use /? at the command prompt.
You will see that the syntax includes Devicename so try
net use LPR1 for your printer.
so the full command in the batch files becomes:
net use LPR1 \\server1\officelaser

I would suggest using the KiXtart logon script processor (Kix32) from the resource kit or from http://kixtart.to/script/ And use the AddPrinterConnection function.

The printers have not been entered into the registry. If you check HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Printers, Connections ... you will probably discover that they are not listed there.

If you are running WinNT workstations exsclusivly, then you can use con2prt.exe. It is found ti the NT Resource Kit.
