    Adding to existing DNS

How do I go about adding more domains to an existing DNS? All documentation I’ve read refers to “starting from scratch”. I have a DNS server and I just want to add more domains as I need them. Please help!

if this is a 2000 server, you can go to your admin tools from control panel. go to dns, right click on the server and select new zone. This will let you add a additional domain.
the same applies to NT4.0 but To get there is alittle different.

For NT4 DNS, use DNS Manager and add a zone.

For BIND DNS, you have to manually edit the configuration files. Each place you find (or place) a new SOA record is the start of a new domain.

Since you already have DNS installed, I’ll assume you have a zone established. If this is nt4, you can go into DNS manager, hit refresh so everthing in the left pane shows up. Right click on your zone and from there you can add a domain. If you needto create new zone, simply right click on your dns server (which you may have established by name or by IP) and establish new zone. Hope this helps.
