additional hard drive

by courtjester . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

Hi,
I have a Intel D946GZIS motherboard,CPU P4 3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium D,1GB memory,60 GB Seagat barracuda Hard Drive,SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616F,AOpen CD writer and running Windows XP Pro.
The Aopen cd writer is not connected yet because the mobo has only 1 ATA/IDE port which is occupied by the CD Rom and the Hard Drive on the ribbon cable as a result the writer remains unusable. I also have a new Maxtor 160Gb SATA Hard Drive which is not fitted, but I would like to fit and install it on the system and use it as a single hard drive because I want to make use of the CD writer.
So what I need to know is can I transfer the entire operating system and my saved files onto the new SATA hard drive after installing,Partitioning and formatting the same and run windows from the new drive if so how can I go about it.
Any help would be highly appriciated
Thanks
courtjester
