Address Bar????

By Tech010 ·
OK I've never seen this happen before but hopefully someone else has. I have lost me address bar in both IE and windows explorer. I verified that the address bar is checked under view. Also, I have checked the entire area of the explorer toolbar, there is no indication of the address bar anywhere. Any help would be appreachiated. Thanks.

Address Bar????

In IE 5.5 you'd go to View --> Toolbars --> Address Bar (it should be checked)

In windows explorer (on W2k pro), you'd do the same: View -->Toolbars -->Address bar.

Also check to make sure that the other bars have not been relocated on top of the address bar. For instance wherever you see a "handle" on the bars, you can click and drag these bars to another location.

The address bar has probably been covered in both instances; by someone fiddling with the handles at the left side of each bar. Look for a handle in the middle... click and drag it to a new line

OKAY THEN HERE"S ANOTHER THING TO CHECK:

At the right side of the toolbars, you might see two bolded greater than signs (like >>, but raised a little). Click on those and see if your address, etc has been moved off to the right.
Handles can be anywhere in the toolbar... including at the end of another line. They are not just along the left side.

Another option would be to go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

and make sure that the Show_Toolbar = "yes" and that ShowURLToolBar ="yes" and the ShowGoButton = "yes" ... then close the registry and reboot. see if that helps.

I'm still convinced that it's hiding somewhere off of your window.

Address Bar????

I just tried something in IE5.0...

I clicked (and held the mouse key down) over "Address" in the address bar, and my cursor changed to "crossed arrows". I then dragged the sonuvagun up to first my toolbar, then up to my menu bar. I also dragged it all the way over to the right of the browser window (in each location) which made it very short, and inconspicuous. But it is there, it just says "Address", and has a small "handle" to the left. If I drag the handle to the left, it opens up. I can also drag "Address" back down to where it displays in a separate "line".

Do you see "Address" in any of your open toolbars/menubars, anywhere?

I have already tried these things, thanks anyway. There is not a trace of the word "address" to be found, but it is checked under view, toolbars. Messed up huh?

For Windows Explorer, make sure you don't have this in the Registry:
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Name: NoBandCustomize
That is the hide toolbar Registry tweak. If you have this value, remove it.
