address suddenly cannot receive email

By AJD ·
We have an Exchange 5.5 sp4 server on NT4.0 server sp6a.
My exchange mailbox has multiple email addresses. Quite suddenly, the main email address (reply-to) cannot receive email. No NDR's are generated and the sender is unaware that the mail is undelivered. All other addresses in this mailbox can receive email. This behvaiour is repeated on all workstations in the domain if I log on as myself. All other users are OK.
What's going on?

that mailbox has probably reached the limits of receiving email.
Check on the exchange server what the limits are in general and for that mailbox in particular.

Leopold

I don't think that is the case: the other addresses associated with that mailbox can still receive mail - it is only that 1 particular address that cannot receive mail.
Also, looking at Mailbox resources shows that other mailboxes are larger still. As we are a small organistaion, we have no set limit on mailbox size.

Questions?

1. Have you tried sending a piece of mail thru an external source to that address? (ie hotmail account to it)

2. Is the domain name correct/is your mailserver responsible for that address' domain name?

3. When generating an e-mail from another outlook client, did you select the recipent from the global address book? or did you type the address in manually?

4. Did you check your delivery options and restictrictions?

5. Check the SMTP address in the e-mail address of their mailbox, (thru exch admin). Make sure that it is correct. Also make sure that it is a SMTP address.

I found the problem: I had created a test mailbox on the firewall that had the same name as the mailbox on the Exchange server. So the firewall was grabbing he mail even before it got to the Exchange server! DOH!
