Admin password

By culukn2 ·
I'm a new IT Admin and the previous admin used a username and password that don't have on a machine that I need to log in on as Admin. Is there a way to change the admin password in NT if you don't know what the password is? Also there is a system here with a BIOS password that an employee put on before they left. Is there a way I can remove that? It has left the system unusable. Thanks for your help.

There is no way to change the NT admin password that I know of.

The BIOS password is easy to get rid of.

On the system board there will be a jumper that will disable the bios password. If you can not find the jumper, then take the bios batteryout.

Wait an hour and put the battery back in and boot up. That will reset the bios to all the defaults which will erase the bios password.

Have you tried to use a Linux boot disk. We have used this before with great results. The other answers that you have received are correct as to how to re-set the BIOS password. Hope this is of some help to you.

Go here for info on changing NT passwords. It's fairly straightforward and self-explanatory, but be careful making changes to the registry, blah blah etc.

You will need physical access to the machine and it will need to boot from the floppy before the hard drive.

Hope that helps -
