Admin password does not update in Win2K

By raul.bernales ·
Team:

We have an NT4 PDC and a Win2K member server. Unfortunately, our NT4 PDC crashed and we have to setup a new one and recreate all its account. Hence with new SID.

When we changed our domain\administrator password, the Win2K member server does synchronize with our domain\administrator password. It is still using the previous password. We made sure that we reset the server to make sure it sychronizes with the domain\administrator password to no avail.

Please help...

Regards to all,
Raul

If either the PDC or Win2K server uses a password protected screen saver, remove this feature. IF the PDC is secured with "Lock Workstation" delete it. Then run NET ACCOUNTS /SYNC.

I hope this works?

d.walker5,

both servers password protected screen savers are not activated and I checked and tried Net Accounts /Sync. I guess this command works between PDC and BDC's.

Tried also running that command in the win2k member server and noticed that /Sync option is not available.

Any more tips?

If you reinstalled your NT 4 PDC from scratch - hence the new SID - then you must remove the Win2K server from the domain (put it temporarily in a workgroup) and then rejoin the domain. Otherwise, the Win2K member server computer account in the domain will not be created properly. Even if you manually created a new computer account for the Win2K member server on your new NT4 PDC, it probably is not validating properly. Hope this helps!

Synergy,

Many thanks for the advice. It did the trick. Guess I was just too afraid to implement it before. Your advice gave me the confidence to do it and applications are all running perfectly.

Congrats! I am awarding you the full points
