Admin rights over new pcs to domain

By bfadero ·
We are upgrading our network software from novell to window 2003 server. With the old system, we had to define ourselves as administrators of the local workstation which runs on windows 2000. Now when we join the workstations to the domain, we find that we still have to define as administrators on the local workstation even though we belong to the administrators group in the windows domain. Surely there must be some script that we can add to the log on script that automatically gives us admin rights over the workstations in the domain?

When you configure your user systems you should have allready setup a local admin password.

Because you will add yourself to the administrator OU you will have admin rights over the domain computers.

Is there the option to re-image all these systems if your swapping over to 2k3 might as well have a fresh start.

As for a script i haven't come across one but that's not to say it doesn't exist.

Dear jonno112, thanks for your comments. Can I add that we intend to leave the workstations running on windows 2000 as their OS. It still doesn't give us admin rights over the workstation

There maybe another way in active directory where you right click on your users OU and go into group policy computer management windows settings security settings restricted groups

Add group (administrator)
Add members to this group
Add your admins to this group, be carefull because this replaces all accounts on the local machine so the original admins need to be added as well.

I hope this makes sense we have just tried iy and it works, you need wait 90 minutes for the GPupate.

suggestion try this on a single machine.

Good luck
