Admin Tools for NT4 from W2K Pro Machine

By KevGar ·
I have recently converted my computer from Win98 to W2K Pro. The only drawback is I am in the middle of my migration scheduled for 6 weeks and I no longer have my admin tools at my desktop. The Win98 tools don't work on 2000. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Which admin tools were you after? Win2K has a pretty comprehensive set of tools built into it...

Cheers,
Tim.

Hi,

OK, your best bet is to get a copy of Windows 2000 server. It has all the tools you need to administer your network.

If you cant get a copy for yourself, perhaps you could use terminal services or the freebie VNC to remotely connect to a Win2K server currently on your network.

Otherwise, take a look at the following article which describes some third party tools for migrating your domain...

Cheers,
Tim.

Your question is a little unclear, but if you're looking for the tools to administer an NT server from the client workstation, you need to use the NT tools on your Win2K Pro machine rather than the Win9x tools. If you look on your NT server or the original NT server CD, you'll see a folder under the Clients folder called "Srvtools". In this folder, you want to install the tools from the Winnt/i386 folder rather than than Win95 folder. These tools will work on your Win2K workstation. Hope this helps!
