Administer AD from NT4

By tbickley ·
Our Frontline Helpdesk Staff has NT4 workstation. We just migrated all of our user accounts to our new AD. Since, we can't run the MMC on NT4, our frontline staff has no way to change user passwords or unlock accounts. We have looked at application mode terminal serivces, but it is to expensive. We have looked at Hyena, but it is very flakey administering AD from NT4. What I would like is a third party tool (locally installed client) that we can admin AD from NT4. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.

Thanks!

I believe you can install the Administrators Pack (ADMINPAK.MSI) from the Win2K Server cd onto an NT4 workstation. Just copy this file from the cd onto the NT4 machine, and double-click it to install it.
It will install all admin tools, including AD Users and Computers.

hope this helps

adminpak.msi won't run on Windows NT 4. The best you can do is install the Terminal Services client and take remote control of a domain controller and do your admin through it.
