Administrator 'read only'?

By R.Williams ·
I would like to allow our clients 2nd line support quick access to their 90 odd NT 4 servers.
I would like them to be able to browse all areas that an Administrator can but not be able to do stuff like edit the registry etc.
Question:
Is there any way to give them some sort of Read Only access rights but keep them in the Administrators group?

Administrator 'read only'?

If I understod what u need, you could do the following. First create a group and place them in. To give read only right, then you have to give this group read only right. And to give this group administrative rights. U go to User manager for domainsand then to User Rights and start giving this group the special administratie rights that you need them to have.

Hope it works with you.

Would they be able to see, for example, the security log?

Answer: NO.
You may accomplish something like this. Create a group, add this persons to the group, gave them ROnly to the shares (hole disk), and also gave the group some special admin right's like "Add computer to domain"
or create a user account.

Goos luck

Sure they would, as I told you go to User Manager for Domains and from the User Rights choose this option and add the group that you created to which you have added the users that you want to give either rights.

Thanks for the effort, they will still be able to do administrative stuff, I want then to be able to only see it and not be able to change anything. Easy enough on NTFS Permissions but not likely through the GUI.
