Adminitrator login to add licenses

I have No Experience with Novell at all. Please try to help.

As the new Network Administrator for my company I need to add 5 additional licenses to the Novell Server. The Server will not accept my Login Name & or my Password. I’ve been told that I must login with the fully qualified name of the Administrator. But I don’t have a clue what that could be??

administrator.mycompany.com does not do the trick.

Please advise.

It would be admin.mycompany.com, unless previous Admin moved the Admin user object to a different context.
Which version of NetWare and Netoerk client are you using?
Can you access SYS:public\win32\nwadmin32.exe? If so you might be able to find someone equivalent to the Admin (not sure how you access rights are set up here?) Look for the Admin User (little reb man (head and shoulders. If you don’t see him in the Organization (Uppermost object in Tree, looks like a box with three connections under it) look in the OU’s (Box with three connection on Right). when you find the Admin, right mouse on himn and select detaisl then scroll down to “Equivalent To”. If you are lucky someone is an equivalent and they can make you an Admin equivalent. If not, you will probably have to call Novell Tech Support at: 800-858-4000 and have a credit card handy.

There isn’t ANY documentation for this Network. I do not know if the admin account has been moved to a different context.

Please note: administrator in my question above is an example not the actual administrator title or name. I tried the above admin.mycompany.com but that is what does not work. My company hired me in an effort to save themselves $100.00+ per hr. consulting fees from the firm that currently administrates the windows 2K and Novell network.

I am an MCSA but I have never had to deal with Novell before. At this point the consulting firm will come out and install the licenses in a couple days. I was hoping to save my company the fees and put a feather in my cap at the same time.

So if anyone has a suggestion please post it.

Like i said have yyou run nwadmin32.exe? Give it a try, it might reveal a lot. if not you know why it’s worth $100/hr!

hm. Try using the Distingushed name of the admin object.

(i.e. .cn=admin.ou=employees.o=mycompany)

However, you need to know the admin’s context. Couldn’t you call the original consulting company for this information?

If not. Log in as a regular employee and then run NWAdmin as above and find the context of the admin user object. However, even if you find the context, you will still need the password.
