ADSI Script for WinNT Provider

By yuemo ·
Hi,

We use ADSI script to manage user/group on stand alone Windows servers. It works perfectly on Windows NT machine.

However on Windows 2000 stand alone server, when we use the same scripts (using WinNT provider) to manage the local users/groups, the performance is terribly slow.

Any idea is greately appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you see a speed difference between these 2 connection strings?

GetObject("WinNT://" & domain & "/" & computer & "/" & GroupName & ",group" )

GetObject("WinNT://" & computer & "/" & GroupName & ",group" )

Even though the server is a standalone, you can still specifiy the workgroup name. ADSI, will cache the connection, so it may be slow on the first connection, but any subsequent connections should be fast.

Depending on what you are doing, this might help: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/netdir/adsi/fast_binding_option_for_batch_writemodify_operations.asp
