ADSL modem and Router Configuration

By gad.tan ·
I have 1700 router without the ADSL module. However, I have ADSL modem by itself and I would like to connect the ADSL direct link (no user id or password but with static IP) to the ADSL modem and from ADSL modem Lan Port to Router FastEthernet 0. Can I do this way and if yes, can advise me on the router configuration?

Thanks

Plug it in and go

Have you tried this?
There is no reason at all why you should not be able to plug the ADSL modem into the router and get on the internet, although you say you have no user name and password which I doubt

Well, sort of plug it in and go...

See the faqs at www.dslreports.com

The issue is that many ADSL modems (such as the Westell ones that AT&T uses) are actually NAT routers, and it does not work well to plug another NAT router into it (double NAT works poorly, if at all).

Plus, the router-to-router configuration makes it impossible for the router (and the router admin) to see the actual DSL connection state or fix it.

The correct solution is to configure the DSL modem as an Ethernet Bridge, and let the router perform the DSL login.
