Hi Cindy
Might depend on you modem and your version of Mandrake. My modem for example has its configuration stored internally. I have Mandrake 10, and all I needed to do was install Mandrake, call up the configuration page for the modem (type modem IP - from ISP/Vendor - into browser and hit enter), enter settings as instructed by ISP, save it ... and that's it.
Alternatively, if you have a dual-boot setup with Windows, configure the modem under windows as instructed and you should be ready to go for Linux. You shouldn't have to setup your ADSL connection under Mandrake at all ... at the most you'll need to configure you ethernet.
Hope this helps. bkdu
