ADSL sharing on an XP machine

By Funky_Monk ·
Trying to figure out how to share my DSL connection within our small home LAN.
Tried Wingate, tried Sygate, Tried ICS, tried putting the modem on the HUB (not supported).
When trying ICS it tells me that someone already has the address 192.168.0.1assigned. All our adresses are static but i get the feeling the modem itself uses 192.168.0.1
Is there a way around this. Or does someone have some good tips for configuring Wingate.
We managed to get wingate working fine with a dial-up and even manged a tiny bit of activity with the DSL but not much.
The host PC is XP and the other two are ME.
the modem is a D-link 300. Network cards are not bridged (and i should think they wouldn't need to be)

Not sure about XP but I've just set up ICS using 98SE. For SE, TCPIP must be set to assign IP addresses automatically on all your home PC's. If you use fixed IP addresses it wont work. The ICS machine should be the only one set up for ICS.

Hope this helps.

It should work with the HUB setup.

Just make sure the DSL modem is plugged into the uplink port, using a straight cable, and all the other machines are plugged into the rest of the ports, and all have the connection software installed (if you need it).

This way all your client can use the internet at one time, instead of one at a time.

Its possible that the DSL modem/router is set to provide DHCP. If this is the case you would have 2 DHCP servers both assigned with 192.168.0.1. Check the manuals to see if DHCP can be disabled on the modem/router.

Is your ISP running on a PPPoE. If so you will need to use a router/gateway that supports it. I had this problem and a LinkSys SOHO router fixed it right up.
