Advice on moving from UK to US

by markbagus . Updated 18 years, 9 months ago

My family and I want to move from the UK to the US.

I have heard that there is a shortgage of skilled IT personnel in the US – so I should be able to find a job there.

However,

1) Is this still true?

2) how best to find a job – especially where the company would be prepared to put in the time and expense to sponsor me for the relevant work visa?

I have 10 years experience in Windows Server/client networks (everything – hardware & software) + some cisco experience. I also have a bachelor degree, MCSE 2003, CCNA & Security+, plus some finance * managerial experience as well.

I have looked at jobboards (eg Monster) – but there are so many jobs advertised, and also is there an easy way to find out if the company would sponsor me as I bet the majority wouldn’t.

I could use agencies – but it seems that they are a bit of a lottery – especially with regard to moving overseas. My experience with them in the UK has not been that good. Using them in a foreign country would be even more of a risk – especially as I have a family to look after and support.

I would really appreciate any advice on my predicament.

Thanks.
